HISTORY OF THE CHRISTIE FAMILY
The Christie Family originated in Nassau, Bahamas - three brothers, Willie, Charles, James and a sister Beatrice.
In 1915, the Christie Family came to the United States. The three brothers settled in Florida, while Beatrice and her husband Randolph Bowen settled in Brooklyn New York and had five children, Roselyn, Edward, Ruth, Iva and Charles.
In 1924, Randolph Bowen died and left Beatrice a widow with five young children. During the difficult years that followed, Beatrice was helped and supported by her brothers Willie, Charles and James as well as her parish church, St Peter Claver's in Brooklyn New York.
In 1930, Beatrice married Aloysius Hanst and had a daughter named Helen. They also took into the family and raised Elizabeth (Betty) Boring, Margaret Hayle, Joan Williams and Denise (Ximora) Hayes.
Fast forward to July 1985 when the Christie families of Willie and James gathered with friends on Stuart's Causeway for a barbeque. All had such a wonderful time that it was suggested that in 1986 all of the Christie families be invited to Florida for a day of fellowship and fun, in other words a "Christie Family Reunion".
Thanks to James Christie Jr. and his perseverance, the first Christie Family Reunion was held on July 4 1986 in Miami Florida; hosted by the Charles Christie Family. The New York family was represented by Charles Bowen and Betty Higginson, who brought back all the information and asked the New York family to host the 1987 Reunion; they did and the reunions have continued to be held ever since.
So here we are today, with many descendants of Willie, Charles, James and Beatrice, celebrating fellowship and love. May we continue to "Pass It On!"
